CITEC - The Centre of Innovation and Training in Elective Care
Centre of Innovation and Training in Elective Care - CITEC
It was announced in December 2004 that Torbay Hospital had been chosen as one of just five flagship national Centres for Innovation and Training, creating a "hub" of best practice for day surgery and short-stay hospital care. This prestigious designation is in recognition of the innovation, teamwork and training strengths already demonstrated here, for example in the hospital's leading work in day surgery, offering pre-operative check ups for patients and improving patients' experience when being admitted to hospital for surgery. The aim is to bring, and develop, the best of international healthcare practice to the UK, to share that through post-training education, and potentially to spearhead the creation of new medical education facilities here in South Devon.
This will mean that patients across the South Devon Health Community will benefit from the most modern surgical and anaesthetic techniques, helping their recovery, and also from receiving their care in ways that patients themselves say are better. It will also mean that we can build our local reputation further, working closely with doctors and nurses in Primary care and that we can continue to attract forward thinking clinicians and top quality young consultants.
